Autobiography - by Adriansyah Yasin

AUTOBIOGRAPY
By Adriansyah Yasin Sulaeman

My life. My life is just an ordinary life to other people. I was born just 30 minutes before midnight in a cloudy Wednesday night of May 27th 1998, just a week after the 32-year long dictatorship Suharto toppled from his power. In the Harapan Kita Hospital in Jakarta, my parents decided that their first child’s name will be Adriansyah Yasin Sulaeman. I’m the eldest of three, my two brothers who are born in the next 2 consecutive years are Muhammad Andy Rafly and Abdi Rizky Muharam. My father, Sulaeman Suparman Natamanggala and my mother, Fitrianty Novitasary Syahriel with my three brothers once lived in Tangerang. Tangerang is where I spend my childhood, before moving to Jakarta. My father is working as a banker until now; and my mother stays at home, taking care of me and my brothers.
I spent my childhood in Al-Istiqomah Karawaci. I study there for 8 years, both in kindergarten and elementary school. I was rather a kampong boy back then, where I spend time playing and playing and playing. There’s no big deal with my life in elementary school. I started to look into politics while I was a 6th grader back then. On October 14th 2009 me with my friends Adly Nurfikriansyah and Andika Rama Prakasa establish a “micronation” of “Federal Republic of Los Bay Petros”. Los Bay Petros itself is still active as today and will be celebrating its 5th anniversary by next October.
Junior High School is a life changing place for me. I graduated from elementary school in 2010 and became the exemplary student of 2004 batch. In the same year, due to my father’s growing work my family moved to Jakarta and settled in Kebayoran Baru. I enrolled in the Labschool Kebayoran Junior High School, and that’s the place where I “changed” from that kampong boy to a modern metropolitan guy. My life totally changed since I have to adapt to new way of socialize and making friends. Elected as student councilor for one-year term in 2011 also helped me searching new experiences and how to participate in organizations.
3 years passed and came the national exam, the famous drawback of Indonesia’s chaotic educational system. Me, who detested with science feel that I can’t reach good scores in the exams since I don’t really like studying them and are quite lazy back then. But with encouragement from all aspects of my life (that includes parents, friends, and “that really special friend” that I don’t really like to describe her here), I passed the exams with score that way above from what I predicted, 37.75. My junior high school batch of Rexasta Pravoira also made history since our school ranked 3rd in Indonesia, and 1st in the private school category. All of us graduated with flying colors and myself then continue to study in the Labschool Kebayoran High School where I choose social major.
Travelling is one of my favorite activities, and I love travelling either around my own city of Jakarta and outside the city or the country. Since 2010, I’ve already traversed 14 countries and countless of cities. Travelling also giving me a lot of experiences and challenges. I have no problem with getting lost and I consider getting lost is the main art of travelling.
Connected with travelling, I have passion in transportation and city planning affairs. I consider myself as roadgeek, and my friends call me anak jalanan or “road boy” since I really love travelling and transportation things. Myself dream of becoming a Ministry of Transportation somehow, and now I’m pursuing to enter Management major later in University.
